This photo was taken on 18 December 2000, on the runway at McMillan Airfield, located on Camp Roberts. Camp Roberts is a California National Guard base, located near Paso Robles, about thirty miles east of San Luis Obispo.

Note the improved landing gear on the Mule, as opposed to the simpler and much less robust system used earlier. Less obvious is the new engine, a two-cylinder version with considerably more power. The new side panels are easily seen. They are attached with nylon screws, allowing unlimited removals and replacements without damaging the wood of the fuselage.

Primarily due to the larger engine, the Mule is now flying at 138 pounds, despite the removal of several pounds of equipment from the instrument bay.
